Start of construction for the new Schaan-Vaduz Youth Hostel

In 2015, we decided that Schaan-Vaduz Youth Hostel, which required renovation, would be replaced by a new building. On 4 July 2018, the winner of the architectural competition was announced: the architectural office Erhart + Partner AG prevailed against a total of 19 competitors with its Einstein project, and will be responsible for the new building. The total costs for the construction project will amount to around CHF 9.1 million. On the 08th of November 2019 the construction could be started.

New top establishment in a prime location

Swiss Youth Hostels has joined forces with the municipalities of Schaan and Vaduz to get visitors flocking to the region. From Easter 2021, the newly built youth hostel will shine in all its glory in the tried-and-tested location. The new building is aimed at price-conscious travellers of all ages, especially families, cyclists, hikers and sports groups.

The number of beds at the new Schaan-Vaduz Youth Hostel will be increased to 116. Double rooms with shower/WC and family rooms with shower/WC, which had previously been lacking here, will be added to the range to offer a more varied selection that meets all of our guests’ requirements.

All rooms are accessible via the lift and there are barrier-free beds in all room categories. Glorious views of the surrounding greenery are guaranteed throughout the building. Loungers and seating dotted around the building invite you to sit back, relax, and enjoy the views of the Upper Rhine Plain and its mountains. The perfect place to take it all in and recharge!

      In March 2018, the Schaan and Vaduz municipalities advertised an international project competition on behalf of the Schaan-Vaduz youth hostel foundation, for which 22 architectural firms were ultimately approved.

      The winner of the architectural competition was announced: the architectural office Erhart + Partner AG prevailed against a total of 20 competitors with its Einstein project, and will be responsible for the new building.

      16. JUL. 2018

      All 20 competition projects were put on display to the public from 11 to 16 July 2018 in the small hall of SAL in Schaan.

      The official planning permission was granted by the Liechtenstein Office for Construction and Infrastructure.

      The first construction machines were started up at Under Rüttigass 6 in Schaan in November 2019, and the Schaan-Vaduz Youth Hostel is now celebrating its topping out.
