The final stage of the renovation work at Montreux Youth Hostel, founded in 1950 and essential to the region, took around six months. Located just a few metres from the shores of Lake Geneva, the hostel now offers guests a new look at an affordable price. The largest structural intervention took place on the ground floor, where the kitchen was swapped for the dining area. Following the renovations, the centrepiece is the new restaurant with its large windows, which ensure optimal lighting and a cosy ambience. The restaurant now also affords direct access to the new outdoor terrace with comfortable seating and a view of the lake.

Travellers can even look forward to new room categories. Four double rooms with private shower and WC are available to guests. The hostel now has two of the popular family rooms. On the upper floor, four six-bed rooms were converted into four-bed rooms with washbasins. «With this adapted variety of rooms, we are optimally meeting the needs of travellers today,» Philipp Estermann, Director of Operations at the Swiss Youth Hostels, is convinced. The spacious lounges on the ground floor are perfect for encounters.

Montreux Youth Hostel underwent a major renovation once already in 2018. Back then, the focus was on barrier-free accessibility, which was achieved by installing a lift and making adjustments to the wet cells. The entrance area and reception were also renovated. With this latest phase, the architects from the local firm Actescollectifs Architectes SA succeeded in giving the youth hostel a completely new ambience. As the building owner, the Swiss Foundation for Social Tourism relied on broad financial support from the Lotérie Romande, the municipality and the region as well as the Denk an mich Foundation.

Numerous possibilities in summer and winter

The Montreux Youth Hostel season runs from mid-February to early December. Thanks to numerous language schools in the area, German-speaking school classes and individual travellers have the opportunity to improve their knowledge of French during a language stay. When it comes to free time, fun is the order of the day: whether relaxing on the bathing lawn in front of the hostel, playing boccia, playing table tennis or swimming in Lake Geneva. Sports fans will also get their money’s worth in Montreux. The region offers numerous mountain biking and cycling tours for adventures on two wheels. There is also plenty to experience in terms of culture: Chillon Castle invites you to travel back in time, and at Manoir de Ban you can follow in the footsteps of Charlie Chaplin.

The destination also has a lot to offer in the winter months. Montreux is just approximately 10 kilometres from the ski resorts of Les Prévondes, Haut-de-Caux, Orgevaux/Les Avants and Rochers de Naye – Montreux. Larger ski resorts such as Crans-Montana are also ideal for a day trip.
