Hiking around our youth hostels

Wake up refreshed, have a hearty breakfast and put on your hiking boots. That’s how a day of hiking begins at a Swiss Youth Hostel. The adventure you decide for yourself begins right outside the door. Do you take the next mountain railway or just start walking? Will you take the post bus to the starting point of your preferred hiking trail or will you take the train to the next town? Here, you can do whatever you like.

Over hill and dale

In Switzerland, you will find over 65,000 kilometres of marked hiking trails and can explore every corner of the country. The hiking trails are well signposted and as varied as the landscape itself – here, the journey is the reward.

Family-friendly hikes

Hiking with children is fun for everyone, because there are fire pits for barbecuing, bathing lakes in summer for swimming and small climbing tours or themed trails with lots of interesting information. There is tons waiting to be discovered when hiking with children.

This is where you spend the night in the mountains:

«LIKE TO HIKE»

Hiking made easy – the Swiss Hiking Federation shows how it’s done right

The Swiss Hiking Federation umbrella organisation shows less experienced hikers how to properly enjoy the local network of hiking trails. It has launched its video series «Like to Hike» especially for this target group. The first in the series is an animated clip with basic tips for carefree hiking.

«How does hiking actually work?» is the question currently being asked by many an occasional hiker. The Swiss Hiking Federation explains what needs to be observed to ensure that hiking is also fun. Nothing stands in the way of carefree hiking so long as these basic rules are followed.
