Swiss Youth Hostels invest in electromobility

01. NOV. 2021

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of registrations of hybrid and electric vehicles in Switzerland. The Swiss Youth Hostels want to adapt to this mobility requirement. In concrete terms, this means that we will be upgrading to support the infrastructure needed to charge these vehicles.

The renovation and new construction of Bern Youth Hostel provided the opportunity to set up a charging station. Since its reopening in April 2018, Bern Youth Hostel has been the first Swiss youth hostel to have 2 parking spaces equipped with an electric charging station. Some of the electricity needed for this comes from the hostel’s own photovoltaic system, which was installed on the roof of the new youth hostel building. For electric bikes, there are enough electric sockets in the bike room to charge the bike overnight.

The Schaan-Vaduz Youth Hostel, which reopened this year, has also recently been equipped with an e-charging station for our guests.

Outlook

For every new building or renovation project, the Swiss Youth Hostels makes sure to include e-mobility concepts. This means that currently 2 more locations are also in the process, namely Interlaken Youth Hostel and Locarno Youth Hostel, Switzerland’s sunniest region.
