myclimate «Cause We Care» awarded the CIPRA Prize
Eleven years ago, Swiss Youth Hostels partnered up with myclimate – a partnership that would later form the blueprints for today’s Cause We Care initiative. The Alpine protection organisation CIPRA Switzerland has awarded Cause We Care’s many years of commitment to climate protection with first prize.
The myclimate Cause We Care campaign has been a broadly supported initiative for environmental protection and sustainability in Swiss Tourism since 2017. Thanks to the programme, customers at more than 30 tourism providers from different areas have been able to counteract their carbon footprint while launching climate protection and sustainability measures on site.
The prize is being received by René Dobler, CEO of the Swiss Foundation for Social Tourism. Eleven years ago, Mr Dobler – then the deputy CEO of Swiss Youth Hostels – partnered with myclimate, which laid the foundation for today’s Cause We Care programme. Since then, guests at the hostels have been able to book climate-neutral rooms at a small surcharge while supporting sustainability projects at Swiss Youth Hostels. This offer is taken up by 60% of all guests. Over the years, various measures have been facilitated by this feature and the carbon footprint of the non-profit organisation has been reduced by half.
