The town of Solothurn and its fascination with the number 11
Solothurn Youth Hostel is located right in the town’s baroque centre. It’s a great place to enjoy a wonderful view over the rooftops of the old town, while you enjoy a glass of the local Öufi (Eleven) beer. You can enjoy a sip or two on our roof terrace or sit on the terrace in front of the youth hostel and take in the lovely view of the River Aare.
Solothurn has developed a fascinating relationship with the number 11 for many centuries. There are 11 churches and chapels in the picturesque old town. There are 11 historical fountains between the aristocratic residences and 11 museums. The famous St. Ursus Cathedral was built in 11 years and has 11 bells in its tower. The history behind this strange obsession is fascinating and will take you on a journey of discovery that not only incorporates churches and bells but beer, whisky and chocolate. So why not visit Solothurn, where eleven is more than just a number?
