Enjoy a fantastic stay in Burgdorf’s prominent landmark
For more than 800 years, a monument of national importance has stood in an imposing position on the castle cliff on the banks of the River Emme. This is Burgdorf Castle, which is now a museum, restaurant and youth hostel.
The commanding castle hill to the west and the striking Gysnauflühe cliff formation to the east of Burgdorf are popularly known as the gateway to the Emmental valley. The town founded by the Zähringer noble family in medieval times serves as the ideal starting point for hiking and cycling tours through the idyllic Emmental valley and excursions to the nearby capital city of Bern. Alternatively, do as the locals do and sit down in a café in the old town, stroll along the River Emme, visit the Castle Museum or Franz Gertsch Museum and simply breath deeply and relax.
