Anniversary memories

Fondly recalling our anniversary celebrations!

Since May, we’ve have been celebrating two significant milestones and can now reflect on numerous remarkable highlights. But the fun never stops – there are still plenty more fantastic activities on our anniversary programme to look forward to. Generation Z kicked off our anniversary year with the Youth Challenge, closely followed by our anniversary mountain forest project at Schaan Youth Hostel. On 11 May 2023, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Swiss Foundation for Social Tourism at Fällanden Youth Hostel. In the summer, our four Youth Challenge teams – Team Eidgeniesserinnen, Team Kompanen, Team Pastapläuschler and Team Hugo – travelled across beautiful Switzerland and enjoyed lots of exciting adventures. In August, our new mascot Tanneli helped us celebrate our big family celebration at Richterswil Youth Hostel. Another highlight in August was our second project week with the Mountain Forest Project, which took place this time in Trin. In September, various youth hostels featured the grand table football tournament on their event schedules.

Youth Challenge

The Youth Challenge was launched in March 2023. Members of Generation Z had the opportunity to submit their ideas for fantastic holiday destinations across Switzerland. We received lots creative trip ideas, so it was very difficult to select our teams. During the summer, the four teams – Team Eidgeniesserinnen, Team Kompanen, Team Pastapläuschler and Team Hugo – headed off on their adventures across Switzerland. Find out about their experiences, adventures and who will win the grand challenge on our blog!

Project Weeks with the Mountain Forest Project

The Mountain Forest Project has been supporting the conservation of Swiss forests for many years. During our anniversary year, the Swiss Youth Hostels and the Mountain Forest Project have been collaborating even more closely. Two project weeks were organised jointly, where volunteers dedicated a week to making a positive impact on the Swiss Forest. Project weeks were held in Schaan in April and in Trin in August.

50 years of the Swiss Foundation for Social Tourism

On 11 May 2023, the Swiss Foundation for Social Tourism is turning 50! Background information, stories and so much more will be coming to this page very soon. The foundation will be celebrating this special milestone with all its key partners at the Fällanden Youth Hostel on the big day.

Our mascot Tanneli

Shortly before the summer holidays, we kicked of our grand drawing competition and the process of naming our new mascot. We received more than 500 drawings and some great name suggestions. The decision was not easy at all. After much deliberation, we decided on the name Tanneli.

Family celebration in Richterswil

The christening of our new mascot merited a proper celebration. Our new mascot was christened Tanneli in front of an enthusiastic audience of children at the big family celebration we held in the middle of August. It was a day that we fondly remember. People laughed, had fun engaging in a host of activities, feasted on tasty treats and enjoyed the lovely summer weather.
