At both national and international levels, we maintain very close relationships with industry associations, local and regional tourist organisations, as well as partners from politics and business. As dictated by our sustainability strategy, we strive to be a role model and to motivate the entire tourism industry – for the benefit of society.

Hostelling International

The umbrella brand for over 3'2650 international youth hostels in 57 countries.

The Hostelling International (HI) organisation was founded in 1932 in order to coordinate youth hostel associations around the world.

Swiss Youth Hostels is a member of this global network.

Our hostelling partners are WYSE and EUFED.

Our sustainability partners

We work with the following sustainability partners:

  • Swiss Youth Hostels defines its emission targets in conjunction with the Energy Agency for Industry (EnAW).
  • öbu is the Swiss association for sustainable economic activity. Its members include around 360 companies, organisations and institutions.
  • The support association ‘Barrier-free Switzerland’ is the coordinating body for information about barrier-free tourism.
  • Since 2008, together with myclimate, SYH has given guests the option of compensating for the unavoidable emissions of their stay.
  • Max Havelaar
    Since 1 December 2008, Swiss Youth Hostels has stocked products bearing the Fairtrade seal of approval from the Max Havelaar Foundation.
  • The ibex fairstay label certifies sustainable management in the areas of business management, business administration, environmental management, employees, regional value creation and culture.

  • Swiss gymnastics federation
  • "Tree by Tree" is the motto of the Aargau-based fashion label NIKIN. Since 2016, the company has been producing sustainable, durable and timeless products. In addition, a tree is planted for every product sold.

  • The hotelleriesuisse association is the expert partner for all forms of accommodation, and represents the interests of hotels.
  • The association for the Swiss hotel and restaurant industry. GastroSuisse represents the interests of the hospitality sector in the public sphere, and is committed to professional training and quality.
  • The Swiss Tourism Federation is an umbrella association that represents the interests of its members towards policy makers, authorities and the general public. It promotes quality and innovation in tourism.
  • For 100 years, on behalf of the federal government, the marketing organisation Switzerland Tourism (ST) has been promoting Switzerland as a holiday and congress destination, both at home and abroad.
  • The Parahotellerie Schweiz interest group works to harness capacities in the area of accommodation outside of the hotel industry.
  • The dog friendly quality label for vacations and leisure with dogs in Switzerland (swiss tourism association member).

  • The mountain bike magazine "Ride" is considered the lifestyle magazine among cycling magazines.
  • Under the leadership of the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund, 30 transport companies transport more than 650 million passengers every year.
  • Swiss gymnastics federation
