Swiss Youth Hostels Association to open a restaurant in Interlaken Mar 15, 2012

On 5 May, the Swiss Youth Hostels Association (Schweizer Jugendherbergen) will be opening a restaurant at its new youth hostel in Interlaken, a stone’s throw from the Bahnhof Ost. Called ‘3a’, the new venture marks the launch of a restaurant-bar-lounge concept which, if it proves a success, will also be offered at other selected destinations. The ‘3a’ concept follows the principles of the Swiss Youth Hostels Association: convenience, fair prices, sustainability and international flair. The range of dishes includes international classics that are prepared in woks right in front of guests as they relax in their seats.

The ‘3a - restaurant bar lounge’ will offer youth hostel guests and the general public a special selection of culinary delights seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to midnight. It is a welcome addition to the existing selection of restaurants and eateries in Interlaken.

Range of dishes prepared to guests’ tastes as they watch

Meals are prepared at wok stations in an open kitchen as guests look on. The range includes international classics such as Thai green chicken curry, mince with pappardelle and sweet and sour apple slices, and Penne Arrabbiata. Guests can add their own extra requests, and have meals prepared to their personal tastes. Each main course comes with a fresh seasonal salad starter, with prices from 14 francs. The full menu consists of three courses and costs 17.50 francs. This includes a salad and a main course, and for dessert, guests can choose from a selection of ice creams from the restaurant’s own gelateria. Dishes such as beef teriyaki and seasonal vegetables, made with exquisite fresh ingredients, are on offer for less than 30 francs. Quality bottled wines are offered by the glass or carafe (from 4.5 francs/dl), along with beers and soft drinks.

Lavishly designed and constructed

In addition to the open kitchen concept, ‘3a’ Interlaken will take guests’ breath away with its lavish design and layout. A wood, concrete and steel construction is complemented by natural hues, creating an atmosphere of conviviality and warmth. With bar and lounge areas, the restaurant provides seating for 120, and at lunchtimes and in the evenings it offers around 15 main dishes, along with menus that change every day. For those who fancy a snack, light bites and gelati are on offer until midnight. Guests can help themselves free of charge to water from the drinking fountain. In summer, the restaurant extends out onto a covered terrace. In the lounge, you can relax around the open fire, play billiards, or take advantage of the free wifi to check your email.

If the concept is a success, ‘3a’ will be popping up in other locations as well

With ‘3a’, the Swiss Youth Hostels Association is launching a new restaurant concept and a new brand. If the venture is a success, it is planned to roll out the concept at other locations as well.
